How to make a Bedrock skin

  1. 1

    Pick a resolution

Choose 64×64 for a skin that works everywhere, or 128×128 HD for more detail on Bedrock.

  2. 2

    Paint both layers

Base layer in the cyan boxes, hats and jackets in the gold boxes. Switching resolution keeps what you drew.

  3. 3

    Check it in 3D

Spin the preview, try Walk, and pick Classic or Slim arms.

  4. 4

    Download the .mcpack

Open the file on a phone, tablet or Windows PC; Minecraft imports the pack. Equip it in the Dressing Room.

64×64 vs 128×128 Bedrock skins

64×64 standard

Java & Bedrock
Pixels
The standard layout every edition reads. Each face of the head is 8×8.
Works in
Bedrock skin packs and the Dressing Room import, and Java Edition through the launcher.
Pick it when
You want one file that works everywhere.

128×128 HD

Bedrock .mcpack
Pixels
The same layout at twice the resolution, so each face of the head is 16×16.
Works in
Bedrock skin packs (.mcpack) on phones, tablets and Windows. Vanilla Java Edition does not load HD skins.
Pick it when
You want finer faces, patterns and shading on Bedrock.

Most consoles cannot import skin files. Import the .mcpack on a phone, tablet or Windows PC signed in with the same Microsoft account.

Tips for HD Bedrock skins

A skin editor made for Bedrock Edition

Bedrock Edition (phones, tablets, Windows and consoles) imports custom skins most easily as a skin pack: a .mcpack file with the texture, the pack manifest and the arm style. This editor builds that file for you, so there is nothing to zip or rename by hand.

Bedrock skin packs also accept HD skins. Switch the canvas to 128×128 and every face of the head becomes 16×16 pixels instead of 8×8, which leaves room for detailed eyes, hair and patterns. Use 64×64 when you also want the same skin on Java Edition, which does not load HD skins without mods.

Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Start from our character Pip or import a PNG, paint both layers, then download the .mcpack and open it on your device.

Bedrock skin editor FAQ

Does Bedrock support 128×128 skins?

Yes. Bedrock skin packs accept HD skins such as 128×128. Java Edition only loads 64×64 skins without mods, so pick 64×64 if you want one file for both.

How do I import the .mcpack?

Open the downloaded .mcpack on your phone, tablet or Windows PC. Minecraft starts and imports the skin pack. Then go to Dressing Room → Classic Skins, open the pack and equip the skin.

Can I use it on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch?

Most consoles cannot import skin files directly. Import the pack on a phone or PC signed in with the same Microsoft account; some platforms then show it, others only allow Marketplace skins.

Can I edit a skin I already have?

Yes. Import a PNG or a .mcpack skin pack, at 64×64 or 128×128. The editor switches to the file’s resolution and adds it as a new layer, so your current drawing is kept. From a pack it takes the first skin and its Classic or Slim arms; older 64×32 skins import into the top half.

Is the Bedrock skin editor free?

Yes. Drawing, the 3D preview and the .mcpack and PNG downloads are free and need no account.

Can I upscale a 64×64 skin to 128×128 without blur?

Yes, it stays sharp. Switching to 128×128 turns every pixel into a 2×2 block, so nothing gets blurry, and you can then add finer detail at the new resolution.

Can I use a 128×128 skin on Java Edition?

Not without mods. The Java launcher only accepts 64×64 skins (and old 64×32 ones), so download the 64×64 PNG for Java and keep the HD version for Bedrock.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. On phones and tablets the canvas fills the screen, the tools sit in a scrollable bar, and the downloaded .mcpack opens straight in Minecraft.

How is this different from the Skin Designer?

It is the same editor with an HD 128×128 option and the .mcpack as the main download. Use the Skin Designer for 64×64 skins you also want on Java.

Can I make an HD skin from a photo?

Yes, with the AI Minecraft Skin Generator on the home page: every AI skin includes an HD 128×128 .mcpack for Bedrock, and you can open it here to fix any pixel.
