Java vs Bedrock cape files
Java Edition
.png · 64×32- File
- A 64×32 PNG. Empty pixels stay transparent.
- Outside
- Pixels 1–10 across, 1–16 down. This is what other players see.
- Elytra
- Reads the area to the right of the cape on the same texture.
- Use it in
- Resource packs, mods and launchers that support custom capes.
Bedrock Edition
.mcpack- File
- A skin pack with the cape PNG, our original character Pip and the pack manifest, ready to import.
- Install
- Open the file on your device; Minecraft imports the pack automatically.
- Elytra
- Follows the same texture layout as Java.
- Use it in
- Your own skin packs and worlds that allow custom content.
Capes you make here are for your own worlds, resource packs, Bedrock skin packs and supported mods. Capes shown on official servers are tied to your account and cannot be changed by uploading a file.
Tips for a cleaner cape
Design the 10×16 back first
That is the part other players see. Finish it before you fill the edges and the inside.
Use a darker inside
A slightly darker shade on the inside panel makes the cape read as one piece when it swings.
Check the elytra
Wings stretch the texture differently. Simple shapes and bold colors survive best.
What is a Minecraft cape maker?
A Minecraft cape is a 64×32 PNG. Only a 10×16 area is the back of the cape you see in game; the rest holds the inside, the edges and the elytra wings. A cape maker shows you which pixels go where, so you can paint the design without guessing.
This editor runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and you can download the result as a PNG or a Bedrock .mcpack at any time.
Minecraft capes work differently in the two editions. On Bedrock, a skin pack can carry a cape, so the .mcpack you download puts your cape on a character with no mods. On Java, the capes other players see come from Mojang accounts and events; a custom cape needs a mod or client that supports custom capes, or you can use the same PNG to repaint the elytra in a resource pack.
